Melissa is passionate about Costume Design, Couture, and Fashion. Her experience has allowed her to develop great sewing skills, the ability to create masks & headpieces, screen printing, dying/aging and distressing, hand rendering, illustrator and photoshop skills, Xcel tech-packs, and problem solving through design challenges. 

 

Melissa is a member of the Costume Designer's Guild, local 892. She just worked on the Disney film: Descendants 4: The Rise of Red as the "Made to Order -(MTO)" Assistant Costume Designer. There she was able to be in charge of the costume shop and really hone in on her skills in garment construction and textile performance. 

 

 Melissa has been the Assistant Costume Designer for the hit ABC/Lionsgate television series  "Home Economics," for 3 seasons.  She has loved the experience of getting to establish these characters and help bring them to life by starting with them from the very beginning, on the Pilot of Season 1.

Melissa  designed two feature films, "The Social Dilemma" which was #1 on Netflix around the world and "A Hard Problem" which is currently circulating at film festivals around the country. She played many different  roles for these films in addition to designing them including:  Supervisor, Set Costumer, Tailor, & Shopper. 

 

Melissa  worked as the Coordinating Production Assistant for Team Supersuits with designer Laura Jean Shannon for a year & a half. There she  worked on 5 different superhero shows simultaneously: "The Boys", "Doom Patrol", "Stargirl", "Titans" & "Black Lightning". She has been able to see every step of the process including: the concept art, textile design, shopping, 3D printing & sculpting, garment construction, fittings, aging & distressing, and freight shipments.

 

Melissa has 114 episodes worth of onset experience in the wardrobe

department of the Dr. Phil Show, at Paramount Studios. She also has 9 months of experience working as a Seamstress/CostumeDesigner at The Costume House in North Hollywood. 

 

Melissa finished her degree in Theatre Costume Design in the Advanced Study program at FIDM in April of 2018. Melissa was 1 out of 7 students accepted into the program; & was one of the 17 graduates to be honored & featured in the four show run of FIDM's Industry Debut at the Barker Hangar.  

 

Melissa is always eager to learn more in order to hone her sewing skills, crafts,  and rendering techniques. Melissa prides herself on her ability to capture a character's essence through researching, reading scripts, creating costume plots, & using color, shape and silhouette to creatively express their personality and role.

 

Melissa has experience working with Diesel for New York Fashion Week, and as assistant designer to Dr. Noki in London. In collaboration with the fashion label BuddhistPunk, Dr. Noki and  Melissa presented at Paris Fashion Week, created pieces for FKA Twigs for her world tour, and designed & constructed couture orders shipped to customers worldwide.
